Together with commercial partners, we are advancing in our operations in the autonomous journey. The transport industry is changing, and the change is happening now. That is why we are proud to be moving at full speed towards commercialization of autonomous transport solutions within ports and logistic centers. Autonomous transport has an important role to play in the future of logistics and will benefit both business and society in terms of productivity, safety and sustainability.
In the port area of Gothenburg, we are setting up an automated and connected system for a continuous flow of goods. Currently, we are in the data collecting phase with a sensor-equipped truck operating in Arendal. The project is a collaboration between Volvo Autonomous Solutions and the shipping and logistics company DFDS, port operators APM Terminals, the Port of Gothenburg and property company Platzer. The development work is done together with technology partner NVIDIA.
Data collection is one of the first steps towards realization of autonomous transport solutions within ports and logistics centers. And the fact that this project takes place not only in confined areas but also on public roads adds to the complexity.
“This pilot is a step towards deploying similar projects in other ports in the world, on the journey towards industrialization of autonomous solutions. Volvo Autonomous Solutions is in an expansive phase with many ongoing projects where we see exciting developments throughout,” concludes Nils Jaeger, President of Volvo Autonomous Solutions. “There’s no time to pause on the road to the future.”
